Fire Proof Thatch Roofs-- |

Available two systems:
- Thatchsayf A spray-on system
- Thatchbor A vacuum impregnated system

|

Thatchsayf -- |
- A fire proof thatch roof chemical
for conventional spray-on application
- The solution consist of fire retardant chemicals, intumescent
and polymere.
- The surface protection coating is two-fold:
- On exposure to heat, the fire proof
thatch roof chemicals react with the cellulose to form
esters giving a more stable base for the intumescent layer
foams to form a protective char that restricts oxygen flow
and reduces the surface temperature.
- The esterification of the cellulose prevents the formation
of levoglucosan, the backbone of the tarry substance that
causes flaming combustion. These esters char, i.e. Form carbonaceous
residue on further heating and thus preventing flaming combustion
of the cellulose.
- The invention differs from many conventional fire
proof thatch roof, witch rely on dehydration of the
cellulose to form a carbon backbone when the volatiles are
paralyzed off.
- The protective coating is environmentally friendly as it is:
- Biological acceptable
- No flammable or harmful solvents are used
- Non toxic before and during application
- Products of combustion are non toxic

A new method of treating thatch grass, thatch reed and timber for
thatch roofing has been developed and patented. The process is based
on the impregnation of grass/reed and other similar products with
an innovative new product called THATCHBOR, a combination biological
preservative and fire retardant.
- THATCHBOR is a patented product and has achieved commercial
success both in South Africa and internationally.
- THATCHBOR is an approved CSIR fire proof
thatch roof product tested to meet the requirement of SABS,
UL (USA) and DIN (Germany).
- The decay and decomposition of thatch is a natural process.
The borate component of THATCHBOR, a well-known wood preservative,
takes care of this problem.
- The innovative aspect of THATCHBOR is the treatment process.
The wax layer on the surface of the grass/reed normally prevents
the absorption of treatment products into the grass/reed system.
THATCHBOR has been specifically developed for impregnation, which
facilitates the penetration of THATCHBOR right into the heart
of the grass/reed stem thus providing full treatment of the grass/reed.
- Once THATCHBOR has been impregnated into the grass/reed stem
the effects of leaching are minimal and the protection is permanent.
Unlike conventional spray-on applications, no further treatment
is required.

The benefits of Thatchbor -- |
- Fire safety assurance together with prolonged durability against
fungal decay and insect attacks.
- Tested in accordance with SABS, CSIR, DIN AND UL (modified)
fire requirements .
- Pre-treatment of the grass by an impregnation process ensuring
total thatch protection .
- Proper control of active ingredient uptake and retention levels.
- Permanent once-off treatment.
- Minimal effects from leaching as the active ingredients are
deposited inside the grass stem.
- Reduction in allergens, the cause of many allergies in children.
- Quality assurance monitored by the SABS and the CSIR.
- Environmentally safe.
